1937 - 1946

  1. Founded by Mrs. Lizzie Shaw 

  2. Place: Providence Mission Building in Chinatown

1946 - 1960

  1. Place: Salvation army (1945 – 1971)

  2. Teachers:

    1. Continually and faithfully presenting God’s word by life and lips

    2. Older students began to assume some teaching responsibilities

  3. Outreach Target: Pittsburgh Chinese (Toishanese)

  4. Noteworthy People:

1960 - 1964

  1. Overseas Chinese students came with leadership ability, experiences, and love for the Lord.

1965

Incorporation:  Pittsburgh Chinese Church 

            Minister:  Ben Au-Yeung (Part-time) (1965 -1968)

 

1966 - 1968

1968 à 1973

  1. Minister:  Wally Yew (1968 – 1973) – First Full-time minister

    1. Began own baptismal services

    2. Youth began to attend Chinese Christian conferences in other cities.

    3. Regular missionary programs instituted

    4. Library started

    5. Sponsored intercity retreats

    6. Acquisition of the Church Home on Parkview Avenue in Oakland

  2. Place: Worship at the First Presbyterian Church in Downtown (1971)

  3. Outreach Target: Chinese beyond Pittsburgh

 

 

1973 - 1985

  1. Ministers: Chinese/English: Jonathan Liu (1973 – 1982),

                             Chinese:  Joseph Cheng (1983 -1996)

                             English /Youth:  William Fong (1977 - 1990)

  1. Place: Christian & Missionary Alliance Church (1973)

  2. Outreach Target: Chinese in Pittsburgh and beyond

    1. Missions Conference

    2. Annual Church Retreat (ACR)

    3. Evangelistic meetings

    4. Young Adults Fellowship (YAF)

    5. Chinese and English College Fellowships on Campuses

    6. English College Fellowship (spin-off from YAF)  

  3. 1984 – Purchased the first building on 4101 Perrysville Avenue in the Northside.

  4. 1985 – Established the first Council system with the Board of Elders and Board of Deacons, and adopted the Pittsburgh Chinese Church Constitution.

 

1985 - 1995

  1. Ministers:   Chinese:  Joseph Cheng

                               English:    William Fong (1977 - 1990), Paul Bucknell (1991 - 2000)

  1. Place:  4101 Perrysville Avenue

  2. Outreach Target:  Chinese and non-Chinese in Pittsburgh and beyond.

    1. English College Fellowship renamed Asian Christian Fellowship

    2. Short-term Mission trips were taken by adults and college students.

  3. Equipping the Body:

    1. Rescheduled Sunday School to follow Worship Service.

    2. Started Fellowship Luncheon after Sunday School.

    3. 1991 – Started concurrent Chinese (Mandarin & Cantonese) and English worship services.

  4. 1989 – Monroeville Fellowship became the Eastern Suburban Chinese Church

  5. 1995 – Planted the Pittsburgh Chinese Church in Oakland (PCCO).

 

1995 - 2005

  1. Ministers: Chinese:  Joseph Cheng (1983 – 1996), Caleb Chang (1996 - 2007);

English:  Paul Bucknell (1990 - 2000), Tom Tessaro (2002 – 2004), and James Fullmer (2004)

  1. Place地點:  4101 Perrysville Avenue and 8711 Old Perry Highway

    1. 2001 – Purchase the ESPE school building on 8711 Perry Highway.

    2. 2002 – Moved into the Old Perry Highway building and established the very first PCC Church Office.

    3. June 2, 2002 - the first Worship Service held at the Old Perry Building.

    4. April 26, 2003 – Perry Highway building dedication.

  2. Equipping the Body:

    1. 1999 – Hugo Cheng became the first pastor of PCCO.

    2. 1999 – Judy Khuu Shine and Tim Shine were sent off as missionaries serving in East Asia. Judy Khuu Shine and Tim Shine

    3. 2008 – Terence Liu became the Chinese pastor of PCCO.

    4. North Hills and South Hills Women Fellowship established.

  3. Outreach Target:  Global

    1. Conducted evangelistic training.

    2. Evangelistic meeting in the Spring (Chinese).

    3. Many Short-term Mission trips were taken by adults and college students.

 

2005 - 2015

  1. Ministers: Chinese – Caleb Chang (1996 - 2007), and Benjamin Lee (2008)

                             English: - James Fullmer (2004)

                             Youth: - Luther Schrum (2009)

  1. Place: 8711 Old Perry Highway

  2. Equipping the Body:

    1. Revival meetings in the Fall (Chinese).

    2. Attended local seminars on biblical enrichment, mission awareness and missionary care (English).

  3. Outreach: Global

    1. Spring evangelistic meetings (Chinese).

    2. Many short-term Mission trips were taken by adults, college students, and youth Fellowship students, both locally, within the U.S., and overseas.
